Field coil speakers in da house!

With a rather long gestation period, we have bitten the bullet and ordered a set of the Mega FCM from our friend Rudy at Aurel Bryan.

Featuring what is currently the largest full range driver from Aurel Bryan (8 inch) and a field coil magnet assembly, the Mega FCM is an imposing unit indeed. The clarity, detail and dynamics are astounding but still holding on to the sweet loveliness that gives music its' emotion and "feel"!

We have already had an awesome sound with as little as 3 watts of power courtesy of a single ended 2A3 tube amp, though our assumption was correct that they sound even more incredible running from our Lyrebird EL84 amplifier!

The Mega FCM is a quasi transmission line, with long internal labyrinth which exits via multiple ports on either side of the speaker. Construction is a thin wall style quality plywood throughout, dressed in oak, teak, walnut and rosewood (shown). Also available in a high gloss painted finish at extra cost. Other notable features are a separate earthing post which is optional and can change the sound, zero power robbing internal components, unique timber floor spikes, magnetic grille and included adjustable power supply to energise the magnets.

Rudy also makes the same design based around his 6 inch and 5 inch field coil drivers, suitable for smaller rooms, as well as 8, 6, 5 and 4 inch drivers using neodymium magnets.

We are hoping to show off Aurel Bryan speakers at this years' Melbourne Hifi show, along with the Lyrebird amplifier- but why wait?! You can hear them right now in our Adelaide Hills HQ, just drop us a line and arrange your private audition either with our amplification or yours if you'd like to bring it along!
