Many of you who follow our social media pages will know I’ve been working on a tube amplifier project for quite some time. After much patience, perseverance, and effort, it’s finally coming to life with the official launch of Lyrebird Audio on the 20th of April!
We’ll be hosting a public showing and demonstration in Colonel Light Gardens, SA, with the support of another boutique SA brand—Hulgich Audio.

Introducing the Lyrebird EL84/4
The first model, the Lyrebird EL84/4, delivers 20w per channel and features several rarely seen design choices:
Dual mono volume controls (using ALPS Blue Velvet components) to reduce crosstalk and provide balance compensation—ideal for asymmetrical listening spaces or differences in L/R hearing.
Defeatable tone controls, allowing you to “season” the sound to your taste, correct bright or bass-heavy rooms, or bypass entirely at the flip of a switch.

Built Local, Built with Care
Our chassis, power transformers, and output transformers are made to spec locally, while the circuit design and installation are handled by a highly experienced Soviet-trained electronics technician now based in Adelaide.
We’ll also offer a limited SS (Soviet Special) version, featuring NOS Russian capacitors and high-grade matched NOS 6P14P-ER (or -K) power tubes, delivering an even silkier midrange.
The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, with many impressed at the drive and musicality of the Lyrebird—remarkable given its modest power figures.
This is just the beginning for Lyrebird Audio—so watch this space for more to come!
